Purple Egyptian™ Barley

Learn About This Rare Heritage Barley From the Middle East

PurpleEgyptianLogo.png

Palouse Heritage Purple Egyptian™ barley spread northward from the Middle East centuries ago to the arid regions east northeast of the Caspian Sea. The bran layer of this six-row hulless grain is glassy purplish-black and composed of the antioxidant anthocyanin and high beta-glucans that lower cholesterol. Palouse pioneering sisters Mary and Anna Barth (Bart) were raised on the Russian steppes and recalled camel rides along fields of this beautiful grain.

Palouse Heritage Purple Egyptian™ is known for a mellow, nut-like flavor with coffee undertones. It is ideal for muffins, scones, pancakes & flatbreads.

Purple Egyptian™ Barley is not available for retail order by mail. Due to limited quantities, it is reserved for wholesale accounts, including bakery and craft beverage producers. Contact us at info@palouseheritage.com for wholesale ordering information.
